Frontiers of Medicine 2007, Volume 1, Issue 3,   Pages 258-263 doi: 10.1007/s11684-007-0049-8

Abstract: To study the pathological and histochemical characteristics of lesions in piglet livers infected with () throughout the different stages, piglets were fed with eggs of and raised in isolation in an animal center to establish the infection model with normal piglets as control. The pathological changes in the piglet livers were observed after the infection using liver sections stained with hematoxylin and eosin. Histochemical methods were used to check the changes in lipid, glycogen and protein content in the liver. The data collected by image analysis were analyzed statistically with Statistical Package for the Social Science. The results show that -exposed piglets were indeed infected. Inflammatory reactions began on the fourth day and progressed rapidly. Kupffer cell hyperplasia, hepatic hydropic degeneration and ballooning degeneration were found in the 10th 20th days after infection. Hepatic central veins and hepatic sinusoids were dilated and congested. Spotty necrosis occurred in some local liver tissues. In the 40th–60th days, granulomatous reactions and mild hepatocirrhosis were the main lesions. In the 70th–80th days, hepatocirrhosis and bile duct proliferation were observed in the liver. In the different stages, lipid drops were increased while glycogen and protein levels were decreased to some degree. There was a significant difference in metabolism between the infected group and the control group (〈0.01). It is concluded that pigs are the favorable intermediate host of and its infection can result in serious pathological and histochemical lesions in host organs.

Research on the ecological compensation standard of the basin pollution control project based on evolutionary

Dongbin HU, Huiwu LIU, Xiaohong CHEN, Yang CHEN

Frontiers of Engineering Management 2019, Volume 6, Issue 4,   Pages 575-583 doi: 10.1007/s42524-019-0044-1

Abstract: Ecological compensation is a new resource and environment management model. As one of the main areas for implementing ecological compensation policies, basin ecological compensation has become an important measure for encouraging basin pollution control projects and improving the quality of regional economic development. By applying the basic game analysis of evolutionary game theory and building an evolutionary game model with a “reward–punishment” mechanism, this paper compares the interest-related decision-making behaviors of the upstream and downstream stakeholders of basin ecological compensation. By using data on the water quality of Xiangjiang River Basin, this paper calculates the rewards and penalties in different intervals by building a parametric regression mathematical model and employing the local linear regression method. Results show that a decline in water quality should be fined RMB 925500 yuan, an improvement in water quality should be awarded RMB 1227800 yuan, and a deteriorating water quality should be severely fined RMB 5087600 yuan.

Experimental studies of ash film fractions based on measurement of cenospheres geometry in pulverized coal combustion

Siqi LIU, Yanqing NIU, Liping WEN, Yang LIANG, Bokang YAN, Denghui WANG, Shi’en HUI

Frontiers in Energy 2021, Volume 15, Issue 1,   Pages 91-98 doi: 10.1007/s11708-020-0806-9

Abstract: In pulverized coal particle combustion, part of the ash forms the ash film and exerts an inhibitory influence on combustion by impeding the diffusion of oxygen to the encapsulated char core, while part of the ash diffuses toward the char core. Despite the considerable ash effects on combustion, the fraction of ash film still remains unclear. However, the research of the properties of cenospheres can be an appropriate choice for the fraction determination, being aware that the formation of cenospheres is based on the model of coal particles with the visco-plastic ash film and a solid core. The fraction of ash film is the ratio of the measuring mass of ash film and the total ash in coal particle. In this paper, the Huangling bituminous coal with different sizes was burnt in a drop-tube furnace at 1273, 1473, and 1673 K with air as oxidizer. A scanning electron microscope (SEM) and cross-section analysis have been used to study the geometry of the collected cenospheres and the effects of combustion parameters on the fraction of ash film. The results show that the ash film fraction increases with increasing temperature and carbon conversion ratio but decreases with larger sizes of coal particles. The high fraction of ash film provides a reasonable explanation for the extinction event at the late burnout stage. The varied values of ash film fractions under different conditions during the dynamic combustion process are necessary for further development of kinetic models.

Experimental study on the laminar flame speed of hydrogen/natural gas/air mixtures

Chen DONG, Qulan ZHOU, Xiaoguang ZHANG, Qinxin ZHAO, Tongmo XU, Shi’en HUI

Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering 2010, Volume 4, Issue 4,   Pages 417-422 doi: 10.1007/s11705-010-0515-8

Abstract: Laminar flame speeds of hydrogen/natural gas/air mixtures have been measured over a full range of fuel compositions (0–100% volumetric fraction of H ) and a wide range of equivalence ratio using Bunsen burner. High sensitivity scientific CCD camera is use to capture the image of laminar flame. The reaction zone area is employed to calculate the laminar flame speed. The initial temperature and pressure of fuel air mixtures are 293 K and 1 atm. The laminar flame speeds of hydrogen/air mixture and natural gas/air mixture reach their maximum values 2.933 and 0.374 m/s when equivalence ratios equal to 1.7 and 1.1, respectively. The laminar flame speeds of hydrogen/natural gas/air mixtures rise with the increase of volumetric fraction of hydrogen. Moreover, the increase in laminar flame speed as the volumetric fraction of hydrogen increases presents an exponential increasing trend versus volumetric fraction of hydrogen. Empirical formulas to calculate the laminar flame speeds of hydrogen, natural gas, and hydrogen/natural gas mixtures are also given. Using these formulas, the laminar flame speed at different hydrogen fractions and equivalence ratios can be calculated.

De-scattering and edge-enhancement algorithms for underwater image restoration Research Papers

Pan-wang PAN, Fei YUAN, En CHENG

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2019, Volume 20, Issue 6,   Pages 862-871 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.1700744

Abstract:

Image restoration is a critical procedure for underwater images, which suffer from serious color deviation and edge blurring. Restoration can be divided into two stages: de-scattering and edge enhancement. First, we introduce a multi-scale iterative framework for underwater image de-scattering, where a convolutional neural network is used to estimate the transmission map and is followed by an adaptive bilateral filter to refine the estimated results. Since there is no available dataset to train the network, a dataset which includes 2000 underwater images is collected to obtain the synthetic data. Second, a strategy based on white balance is proposed to remove color casts of underwater images. Finally, images are converted to a special transform domain for denoising and enhancing the edge using the non-subsampled contourlet transform. Experimental results show that the proposed method significantly outperforms state-of-the-art methods both qualitatively and quantitatively.

Removal of Cu(II) and Fe(III) from aqueous solutions by dead sulfate reducing bacteria

Hong’en QUAN, He BAI, Yang HAN, Yong KANG, Jiao SUN

Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering 2013, Volume 7, Issue 2,   Pages 177-184 doi: 10.1007/s11705-013-1324-7

Abstract: The biosorption properties of dead sulfate reducing bacteria (SRB) for the removal of Cu(II) and Fe(III) from aqueous solutions was studied. The effects of the biosorbent concentration, the initial pH value and the temperature on the biosorption of Cu(II) and Fe(III) by the SRB were investigated. FTIR analysis verified that the hydroxyl, carbonyl and amine functional groups of the SRB biosorbent were involved in the biosorption process. For both Cu(II) and Fe(III), an increase in the SRB biosorbent concentration resulted in an increase in the removal percentage but a decrease in the amount of specific metal biosorption. The maximum specific metal biosorption was 93.25 mg?g at pH 4.5 for Cu(II) and 88.29 mg?g at pH 3.5 for Fe(III). The temperature did not have a significant effect on biosorption. In a binary metal system, the specific biosorption capacity for the target metal decreased when another metal ion was added. For both the single metal and binary metal systems, the biosorption of Cu(II) and Fe(III) onto a SRB biosorbent was better represented by a Langmuir model than by a Freundlich model.

Chen DONG, Qulan ZHOU, Qinxin ZHAO, Tongmo XU, Shi’en HUI

Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering 2010, Volume 4, Issue 4,   Pages 411-416 doi: 10.1007/s11705-010-0514-9

Abstract: Laminar flame speeds of natural gas-carbon monoxide-air mixtures are calculated by CHEMKIN II with GRI Mech-3.0 over a large range of fuel compositions, equivalence ratios, and initial temperatures. The calculated results of natural gas are compared with previous experimental results that show a good agreement. The calculated laminar flame speeds of natural gas-carbon monoxide-air mixtures show a nonmonotonic increasing trend with volumetric fraction of carbon monoxide and an increasing trend with the increase of initial temperature of mixtures. The maximum laminar flame speed of certain fuel blend reaches its biggest value when there is 92% volumetric fraction of carbon monoxide in fuel at different initial temperatures. Five stoichiometric natural gas-carbon monoxide-air mixtures are selected to study the detailed chemical structure of natural gas-carbon monoxide-air mixtures. The results show that at stoichiometric condition, the fuel blend with 80% volumetric fraction of carbon monoxide has the biggest laminar flame speed, and the C normalized total production rate of methane with 80% volumetric fraction of carbon monoxide is the largest of the five stoichiometric mixtures.

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2022, Volume 23, Issue 2,   Pages 186-206 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.2100041

Abstract: In constructing a , to provide intelligent assistance for achieving more efficient, fair, and explainable trial proceedings, we propose a full-process (FITS). In the proposed FITS, we introduce essential tasks for constructing a , including information extraction, evidence classification, question generation, , , and judgment document generation. Specifically, the preliminary work involves extracting elements from legal texts to assist the judge in identifying the gist of the case efficiently. With the extracted attributes, we can justify each piece of evidence‘s validity by establishing its consistency across all evidence. During the trial process, we design an robot to assist the judge in presiding over the trial. It consists of a finite state machine representing procedural questioning and a deep learning model for generating factual questions by encoding the context of utterance in a court debate. Furthermore, FITS summarizes the controversy focuses that arise from a court debate in real time, constructed under a multi-task learning framework, and generates a summarized trial transcript in the dialogue inspectional summarization (DIS) module. To support the judge in making a decision, we adopt first-order logic to express legal knowledge and embed it in deep neural networks (DNNs) to predict judgments. Finally, we propose an attentional and counterfactual natural language generation (AC-NLG) to generate the court‘s judgment.
